A three-dimensional representation of the city of Olinda from Italo Calvino’s book Invisible Cities. Olinda is a city that starts out the size of a pea, and then expands outwards in concentric circles, constantly remaking itself while compressing the old outwards towards its edges. My project, Olinda, is a sculptural representation of the city. I used images I took of Baltimore, a post-industrial city, and collaged them together to make the circular scenes for the project. I then used wire and rubble from abandoned buildings in Providence, Rhode Island to construct bases for the images.
