A designer’s task is often translation—converting an initial expression into new forms, mediums, and configurations for new audiences. The same is true in social movements for liberation and justice. Is there value in saying something differently without saying anything new? In my work Adiche Lorde Quilts I bring into conversation the expressions of black feminists from different eras—Chimamanda Adiche, Audre Lorde, and many generations of black women quilters of Gee’s Bend.
